Our Story
White Turtle Books began as a question. What must a writer do to be read? How does a person break through the corporate barriers of the publishing world? How does one share the gift of a well crafted story when no one else is willing to share the risk?

Then personal computers came. The question became a dream. Stories were easier to write with cut and paste and story telling became more fun. Editing tools made it possible to do things only commercial printers could do. Yet, the barriers of corporate publishing only grew higher.

When the Internet arrived, the dream became possible. A writer could become the publisher and reach out directly to the reader. An author could talk to a public half a world away and could learn from them how to make the stories better.

The next change was publishing on demand. Whole libraries could be stored on a single server. Books could be printed when they were needed. There was no need of someone in the middle to store books and distribute them. And because a book did not have to bear the burden of corporate salaries, its price could be very low.

So everyone won, except maybe the big corporations....

Where We Are
Now the dream has come alive. The stories are told, the store is open twenty-four hours of every day, and there are interesting people to visit. Even if you don't find what you're looking for, send us an e-mail telling us how we can serve you better. That's what the dream is about, sharing our celebration of a world of light.

Then, too, if you've written a story you really believe in and are tired of form rejections, we are willing to look at it. We charge for this because we have bills to pay, the same as you. Yet, we give you an honest opinion. That's guaranteed. Life is too short to spend on anything but the truth.

Just so you know, we are for real. White Turtle Books is a member of the Midwest Independent Publishers Association and is listed with Publisher's Marketing Association. We're licensed to do business in Minnesota, which is itself an 'interesting' state of mind.

What Dreams May Come
What does the future hold? Since questions bring dreams to life, let's ask a few.

What would it be like to have a site where writers gather to share their experience, their dreams, their hope and their joys? How do we help them find their own readers? What would it take to set up a comfortable place for readers to share their views? How can we meet the needs of our visitors better? How do we make this site more user friendly, even to those without lots of computer skills?

The point is that the future is there for all of us. Like all great gifts, it is multiplied by being shared, and never diminished. For when it comes to imagination, there are no limits.
